Helping Others

Care and Compassion Ministries

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

(II Corinthians 1:3-4)

The apostle Paul here assumes that believers in Christ will be “afflicted” as they seek to faithfully follow their Lord. But God will surely supply the comfort they need—comfort from Him and comfort from Him through fellow believers.  All is for the glory of God in the lives of His people.

The various mercy ministries here at Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church exist, therefore, because we take seriously Paul’s admonition to “comfort those who are in any affliction.”

Compassion and Care for Those of Our Fellowship

The scripture admonishes us to especially care for his people:

So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. (Galatians 6:10)

Here are some of the ways we seek to obey our Lord.

Compassion and Care for Those Outside Our Fellowship

When asked by his enemies, "Who is my neighbor?" the Lord Jesus replied with the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10).  We recognize our responsibility to reach out to our "neighbors" in need.  We do that in several different ways.
